Photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) and narrow band imaging (NBI) represent technologies which are complementary to standard white light cystoscopy and transurethral resection of the bladder (TURB) for the diagnostics of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. With improved sensitivity they facilitate endoscopy and enable a more precise diagnosis to be made. PDD endoscopy uses an intravesical instillation of a photosensitiser and subsequent visualization of its activity using "blue" light. PDD significantly increases the detection rate of bladder tumors, especially high-grade lesions. Several studies documented a significant improvement in diagnosis as evident...

Drug-related osteonecrosis of the jaw is a rare complication from treatment in patients suffering from cancer and other diseases. These lesions are described as an adverse effect of a specific type of antiresorptive and/or biological therapy, which affects bone metabolism. The risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw is significantly higher in cancer patients than in patients with metabolic bone diseases. Patients suffering from advanced urological malignancies represent a group with a high risk for the development of these lesions. Osteonecrosis of the jaw impairs the quality of life for those affected. It may significantly restrict or completely prevent...
Lower urinary tract obstruction caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia in patients with end stage renal disease

Some differences exist in the diagnosis and therapy of bladder outflow obstruction between the general population and patients with end stage renal disease. They include, but are not limited to, variability in the degree of residual diuresis, altered bladder sensation, end stage renal disease-induced changes in urodynamic parameters, and differences in circadian diuresis. Understanding and recognizing these differences, as well as their implications in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including optimal timing of diagnosis and treatment, within this group of patients, will lead to better treatment outcomes and a lower rate of complications.

Aim:A comparison of long term outcomes in patients after gastrocystoplasty and ileocystoplasty and a comprehensive literature review to determine the risk of developing malignancy.Material and method: Between February 1990 and September 2006, 35 patients underwent 37 bladder augmentations. We compare the long-term outcome and overall morbidity of 17 patients after ileocystoplasty (ICPL) and 15 patients after gastrocystoplasty (GCPL). In the ICPL group, the median patient age at time of surgery was 12.5 years (5.8-19.2); primary diagnosis included neurogenic bladder and exstrophy/epispadia complex. In the GCPL group, the median...

Aim:Urologists evaluation of pathology results after radical prostaterectonomy for prostate cancer of patients with "normal" pre-operative values of PSA.Material and method:In the course of the 4.5 years (August 22, 2008 - November 7, 2012), we have carried out 758 robot assisted radical prostatectomies in patients with histologicaly confirmed prostate carcinomas. In this group there were 95 patients with pre-operative PSA values under 3.5 ng/ml. In retrospective analysis we documented that in this group of patients whose pre-surgical classification was eTIMONO, according to post-surgical pathology 12.63% had locally advanced...

We present a case report describing a huge hydronefrotic segment of a horseshoe kidney. A partial nephrectomy of the hydrophrothic sac was performed, with preservation of the solitary functional contralateral segment.
