Immunotherapy of prostate cancer

Bartůňková J., Špíšek R., Podrazil M., Jarolím L.

Ces Urol 2014, 18(4):273-278 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2014040

Immunotherapy has become an increasingly appealing therapeutic strategy for patients with cancer. Tumorigenesis itself is a very complex process. The development of cancer is a multistage process of a comprehensive nature wherein the tumour cells themselves represent a very heterogeneous population put into the context of a microenvironment of non-tumour cells and tissues, thus forming a complex tumour "ecosystem". The immune system is capable of controlling tumour cell growth in the early stages of tumour development. With advanced tumour growth, immune mechanisms become more or less paralysed and, in fact, not infrequently have a promoting effect...

Autonomic dysreflexia in patient after spinal cord injury

Vladimír Šámal, Jan Mečl

Ces Urol 2014, 18(4):279-287 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2014041

Autonomic dysreflexia is a consequence of dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system after spinal cord injury, when are also interrupted sympathetic nerve pathways in the spinal cord due to an accident. The autonomic dysreflexia occurs in patients with injuries above the spinal segment T6, it is an imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Autonomic dysreflexia can be triggered by a number of physiological or pathological sensations from the area under the spinal cord lesion and exhibits paroxysmal hypertension accompanied by bradycardia and headaches. The aim is to provide urologists current and comprehensive knowledge...

Extracoporeal shock wave lithotripsy in a current urological pactise

Leo Pšenčík

Ces Urol 2014, 18(4):288-299 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2014042

Since the introduction of Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) in a medical practise which happened in eighties in the past century, this method has happened one of the most widely used therapeutic modality for the patients with urolithiasis. ESWL gained a great popularity among urologist for its non- invasiveness and also for its high efficiency and high tolerance. Over the years there has been a significant progress in new types of lithotripter machine. Nowadays it is difficult to compare a success of single apparatus. Data suggest that the later lithotripter machines don?t have a better fragmentation effect or either impact on reduction...

Use of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging and comparison with other modern imaging methods in the preoperative diagnosis of prostate cancer

Ces Urol 2014, 18(4):300-309 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2014043

Magnetic resonance (MR ) has long been considered a promising imaging method to assess the localization and local staging of prostate cancer (CP ) . The aim is to present modern multiparametic MR and other imaging methods that could improve the detection and localization of CP . MR of the prostate was introduced into clinical practice in the mid- 80th years of the last century . Since then there have been significant developments to the present multiparametric MR, which includes a combination of anatomical and functional display and metabolic information. MR is helpful for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, particularly in the case of suspected clinical...

Retrospective assessment of indication for surgical treatment of BPH in patients with cystolithiasis

Chmelík František, Belej Kamil, Köhler Oto, Kaplan Ondřej, Kočárek Jiří, Drlík Pavel, Brdlíková Šárka

Ces Urol 2014, 18(4):310-315 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2014044

The objective:The aim of this study was to evaluate the need for prostate surgery in patients who underwent cystolitholapaxy. The cohort and the methods:From the January 2001 to the February 2014, a total of 108 cystolithotripsy procedures (CLT) have been performed in our hospital. Except of one case CLT was performed exclusively using transurethral sonotrode or Holmium laser. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) was determined as a principal diagnosis in 86 men (80 %). Twenty five of them also underwent CLT with transurethral prostate surgery. Indication of the simultaneous prostate surgery were high risk of recurrence...

Assessment of the extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy efficacy using electromagnetic generator EMSE 140f Dornier Compact Sigma and determination of the effective energy dose.

Vít Paldus, Vladimír Šámal, Jan Mečl, Jiří Pírek

Ces Urol 2014, 18(4):316-323 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2014045

Objective: The aim of the work is to present the first results of the extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) with the use of a new mobile lithotripter machine Dornier Compact Sigma, assessment of its electromagnetic generator efficacy and determination of the mean energy dose applied. Methods: Efficacy of ESWL treatment with the use of the new mobile lithotripter machine Dornier Compact Sigma was prospectively assessed in the first fifty patients treated with the device during the period from December 2012 to February 2013. Procedures were performed under analgosedation. Size of the stones was recorded before each...

Evaluation of Erectile Dysfunction after Robot-assisted Radical Prostatectomy

Broul Marek, Štrbavý Miroslav, Skála Petr

Ces Urol 2014, 18(4):324-333 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2014046

Objective The aim of the study was evaluation of the International Index of Erectile Function 5 (IIEF-5) questionnaires, which were filled by patients of the Clinic of Urology and Robotic Surgery from 2008 to 2014 after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). We wanted to determine whether and how long last recovering of the erectile function and if it returns to preoperational state. We also wanted to confirm if the recovering of the erection depends on the subtype of operation - the nerve-sparing and non nerve-sparing prostatectomy.Patients We performed 1119 RARP operations on our Clinic during the reporting period. Not all...

Primary amyloidosis of the ureter

Petr Plasgura, Tomáš Vaněk

Ces Urol 2014, 18(4):334-338 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2014047

We present a case report of primary amyloidosis of ureter AL type, a rare type of the diseases. The disease has led to the hydronephrosis and oligofunction of the kidney. The diagnosis was histologically determined until after nephrectomy. The histological demonstration of amyloid is essential for diagnosis. Conservative operation is possible only if the diagnosis is set before or during the operation. We should think on the amyloidosis of the ureter in the case of the occurrence of calcification in the wall of the ureter or renal pelvis on CT scans.
