Neural control of the lower urinary tract

Jan Krhut, Roman Zachoval

Ces Urol 2011, 15(2):69-77 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2011014

Neural control of the lower urinary tract function is a complex and complicated process performed on several levels. The principles of peripheral inervation of Ehe lower urinary tract are relatively well-known to urologists. However, central control mechanisms are known to a rather small number of urologists, even though the consequences of their disorder are encountered in the urological practice on a daily basis. In the last two decades the studies of the brain using the positron emission tomography and the functional magnetic resonance contributed to understanding of the control structures and mechanisms of the micturition cycle on Ehe brain...

Lichen sclerosus - commonly overlooked urological diagnosis with serious complications

Viktor Vik, Petr Nencka, Miroslav Záleský, Roman Zachoval

Ces Urol 2011, 15(2):78-84 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2011015

Lichen sclerosus is progressive skin disease with predominant localisation on external genitalia and with possible serious complications. Incidence is higher than it has been published in the past and therapy can be very complicated in some cases. The text is highly focused on urological consequences of this diagnosis. The aim of the authors is not to provide complex information about this disease across all medical subspecialties. Special interest was dedicated to urological complications, their treatment and prevention.

Carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX)expression in renal cell carcinoma and transitional cell carcinoma of urinary tract

Lubomír Hyršl, Jan Závada, Zuzana Závadová, Ivan Kawaciuk, Štěpán Veselý, Petr Škapa

Ces Urol 2011, 15(2):85-92 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2011016

Aim:The aim of our study was to investigate the presence of soluble CA IX protein (s-CA IX) in tumor culture media in vitro and body fluids of patients carrying CA IX protein positive tumors. The final purpose was to improve present diagnostic methods to s-CA IX detection and to determine its possible use as a marker of renal clear cell carcinoma (RCC) and transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). Material and methods:In the preliminary study were two groups of patients: 1. RCC patients, 2. TCC patients. In the first group were included 31 RCC patients and 61 controles, in the second group 32 patients with endoscopic suspicion for...

Ces Urol 2011, 15(2):93-100 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2011017

Aim:Laparoscopy was established at urological department of University Hospital Plzeň, CZ in 2003 and to the end of 2010, 993 laparoscopic operations were performed. The aim of the work is to give a picture of stratification of laparoscopic operations and position of laparoscopy in the spectrum of therapeutic methods at our department, which is a single-bed facility in Plzeň region and one treats the entire spectrum of urological disease without selection of selected performances or diagnosis.Material and methods:There are presented prospectively collected data of all 993 laparoscopic operations in the mentioned period of 8 years....

Impalpable testis, what first: diagnostic laparoscopy or inguinal exploration?

Marcel Drlík, Radim Kočvara

Ces Urol 2011, 15(2):101-107 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2011018

Aim:Management of impalpable testis remains controversial so far. Although laparoscopy has been accepted by many paediatric urologists as a diagnostic approach of choice, the others advocate primary inguinal exploration due to its simplicity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the benefit of diagnostic laparoscopy in the management of impalpable testis.Material and methods:We reviewed the findings of diagnostic laparoscopy performed on 57 boys (18 right side, 31 left side, 8 bilateral) with 65 impalpable testis from January 1999 to January 2010. The patients age varied from 4 months to 17 years (mean 47 months). Only impalpable...

Treatment of neurogenic detrusor overactivity using botulinumtoxin A - initial experiences with submucosal route of application

Vladimír Šámal

Ces Urol 2011, 15(2):108-112 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2011019

Aim:Treatment of neurogenic detrusor overactivity using botulinum A toxin is the first option for patients refractory to antimuscarinic drugs. This study compare changes of urodynamic parameters in different route of application of botulinum A toxin - submucosal and intramuscular.Material and methods:Twelve patients after spinal cord injury in age between 16 and 36 year were randomised into two groups to receive 300 U of Botox? by cystoscopic approach. In group A was drug administred submucosaly and in group B into detrusor. Results:Author present preliminary results of 12 patient. After treatment number of epizodes...

Treatment outcomes of the retroperitoneal sarcomas and main risk factors

Balík Michal, Zoul Zdeněk, Petera Jiří, Pacovský Jaroslav, Broďák Miloš

Ces Urol 2011, 15(2):113-119 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2011020

Aim:Retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS) represents a rare malignant tumor with high risk of recurrences and lethal course of disease. The aim of the study is an evaluation of the results of the retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcomas treatment.Material and methods:A cohort of 43 patients treated for RPS was retrospectively analyzed. The adjuvant irradiation and chemotherapy was given all patients with positive surgical margin (PSM) and high-grade lesion. We assessed an influence of positive surgical margin and presence of high-grade RPS to risk of recurrence and survival. Median follow-up was 60 (26-128) months. The median age was...

Karol Kajo, Vladimír Baláž, Katarína Macháleková, Peter Čunderlík, Milan Švec, Jozef Babeľa

Ces Urol 2011, 15(2):120-125 | DOI: 10.48095/cccu2011021

To point at morphological and clinical features of the rare sarcomatoid carcinoma (SC) with heterologous osteosarcomatous differentiation occurred in the urinary bladder. This is a case of a 78-year-old man with massive macroscopic hematuria and a tumour in the urinary bladder sized 50 x 45 mm, confirmed by ultrasonography and computer tomography, without any signs of dissemination to distant sites. In the material obtained from transurethral resection there was histologically proved malignant biphasic tumour with components of the high-grade carcinomatous (urothelial) and mesenchymal (osteosarcomatous) type. Immunohistochemical analysis showed...

Calcified metal tacker removal from the bladder using Holmium laser
