Aim:
Laparoscopy was established at urological department of University Hospital Plzeň, CZ in 2003 and to the end of 2010, 993 laparoscopic operations were performed. The aim of the work is to give a picture of stratification of laparoscopic operations and position of laparoscopy in the spectrum of therapeutic methods at our department, which is a single-bed facility in Plzeň region and one treats the entire spectrum of urological disease without selection of selected performances or diagnosis.
Material and methods:
There are presented prospectively collected data of all 993 laparoscopic operations in the mentioned period of 8 years. Numbers include conversions as well.
Results:
The number of operations per year increased from 32 to 234. Laparoscopy underwent from 1.9% to 8.7% of admitted patients. In the first years of operation on kidney prevailed, radical prostatectomy was added in 2008. Crucial operations are radical nephrectomy - 36.9%, resection of kidney tumour - 12.2%, nephrectomy for benign disease - 9.4%, ablation of renal cyst - 6.6%, nephroureterectomy - 6.4%, adrenalectomy - 5.7%, varicocelectomy 5.1%, pyeloplasty - 3.9%. Radical prostatectomy consists of a total of 8.4%, but in 2010 it was already 19.7%. Laparoscopic operations are carried out separately by five urologists. For documenting the role of the laparoscopy, here are the numbers of surgeries in 2010: laparoscopy 234, ureteroscopy 375, TURB 278, operation for BPH 274, selected open operations: nephrectomies 60, kidney tumour resections 67, cystectomies 24.
Conclusion:
Laparoscopy allows you to treat a wide range of diseases previously requiring open access. At the urological department of University Hospital Plzeň dominate operation of the kidneys. However, laparoscopy does not represent nor 10% surgically treated and remain a there are crucial endoscopic operations yet.
