The aneurysm of the abdominal aorta (AAA) is a severe disease the occurance of which is increasing and continues to have a high mortality. Currently, AAA has been incidentally diagnostified as asymptomatic in most cases, only 25% cases are symptomatic. Symptomatic AAA is usually manifested by a stomachache and a backache. In some patients the renal colic can be imitated. In this article, the case of a 56-year-old man, a former smoker, with ICHS after IM is presented. The patient was referred by his general practitioner to the urology clinic to be treated for renal colic. Only the acute sonography identified the proper cause of the problem - AAA. The patient was immediately transferred to the surgery department and was urgently operated on for AAA rupture. In this article, the attention is drawn to one possible, though rare, causes of stomachaches imitating a renal colic. The role of sonmography in the early diagnostics of AAA imitating a renal colic is emphasized. Sonography is recommended for the renal colic to be performed, if possible acutely, immediatelly after the assessment and physical examination.
