Introduction: The authors aim to drive attention to the importance of urological examination in infertile and subfertile males before starting therapy with methods of assisted reproduction by using the example of possible detection of such a serious disease as malignant testicular tumour by means of a retrospective analysis of diagnostic summaries in patients investigated during 17 months in the andrological clinic of University Andrological Centre in FN Brno.
Material and methods: 224 patients refferred for subfertility or infertility and abnormal spermiogram were seen for the first time in the andrological clinic of the University Andrological Centre from November 1999 to the end of March 2001.
Results: Testicular tumour was suspected in 3 patients (out of the above mentioned 224 investigated) on the basis of palpation only, in one patient the tumour was bilateral. One patient refused therapy, in the two remaining the malignant tumour of the testicle was confirmed by histology.
Conclusion: Subfertility in patients with tumour of the testicle (or testicles) is present in an incrreased percentage of cases and this paper wants to warn angainst the simple solution of the problems of infertility or subfebrility by methods of assisted reproduction without previous urological investigation of the patient.
