Small cell carcinoma of urinary bladder is a rare disease with poor prognosis. About 150 cases are reported in the literature. The tumour is characterized by an aggressive growth with local spreading and remote metastases. The invasion of the tumour to the muscle of the bladder or to paravesical fat is present in most patients at the time of diagnosis and the incidence of metastases is high as well. The tumour has two basic histological forms, a pure small cell carcinoma and mixed, together with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. Imunohistochemical investigation is essential for the diagnosis. Management consists apart from surgery of chemotherapy on a cis-platin basis. We report a clinical experience with the diagnosis and therapy of a patient in whom small cell carcinoma of the bladder was diagnosed.
