The targeted therapy of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) was introduced 2006 and it has changed to a certain degree even surgical management of RCC. The purpose of this article is to summarize an integration of surgical and targeted therapy of mRCC. The targeted therapy consists of 3 groups of drugs: tyrosine kinase (TK) inhibitors (sorafenib, pazopanib), mammalian target of rapamycin () inhibitors (temsirolimus a everolimus) and monoclonal antibiodies of VEGF (bevacizumab). We have evaluated available information gained especially from PubMed. The majority of knowledge is concerned with sunitinib. The profit of a cytoreductive nephrectomy...

Aim:We summarized our own experience and results of early surgical management of ureteral trauma (UT).Methods:In the period between January 1995 and January 2010 we treated 71 patients (15 men and 56 women) for UT. We evaluated our cohort in regard of advantage of indication of early surgical management. This is a retrospective study. Results:The mean age was 47 years (range 33-66). The most common cause of UT were gynaecological procedures (43%), less often endoscopical procedures (28%), colorectal operations (18%), ureter deliberations (5%), surgery of abdominal aortic aneurysm (3%), suprapubic prostatectomy...

Aim:The aim of the study is to confirm laparoscopy as the first choice method, used for diagnostics and for treatment of non-palpable testes.Material and methods:Retrospectively we evaluated a set of 14 children with non-palpable testes, that were treated in our department from 2005 to 2010 in which we carried out laparoscopy. The average age was 31 months (7-96 months). Insufflation of capnoperitoneum was carried out from infraumbilical incision up to pressure 10-12 torr. Capnoperitoneum was established with Veress needle in 10 cases, preparation technique was used in 4 cases. Two 5mm ports were inserted into the abdominal...

Aim: An association between genitourinary infection and prostate cancer has not been clearly demonstrated despite the past 20 years research efforts. No research group has investigated, however, the possible role infection could play in prostate cancer behaviour and the disease course.Material and methods: In our case-control study, we have evaluated 317 patients who had undergone radical retro-pubic prostatectomy for a clinically localized prostate cancer; we were looking for a possible correlation between the presence of antibodies (surrogate marker of past infection) to various genitourinary pathogens and the tumour biological...

Aim: The issue of the overactive bladder (OAB) is one of the most actual topics of the current urology. The OAB is characterized by the presence of severe urgency with or without incontinence, mostly accompanied by frequency and nocturia. Urgency is defined as a sudden compelling desire to pass urine, which is difficult to defer. The OAB in adult population is estimated at about 10-12%; however, most of the patients are not diagnosed even treated. The aim of this study is to evaluate the OAB prevalence in the specific population of patients of the urological outpatient clinic.Material and methods: Five hundred consecutive...

The bleeding is one of the possible complication of percutaneous nephrolithotomy. In this article we submit the case report of late secondary bleeding from pseudoaneurysm of damaged intrarenal artery. This complication was solved by angiographic super-selective embolisation.
