The objective of the work was to determine the catch of the prostate cancer (PCa) at the patients with large - volume prostate above 50 g. From April 1999 to March 2003 there were performed 1046 modified transrectal biopsies of prostate (TRUS-Bx) at the patients with PSA under 100 ng/ml. We analysed 363 biopsies at 320 patients with the prostate volume above 50 g According to the modified schema there were sampled 6 samples of peripheral zone (PZ) and 4 samples of transition zone (TZ).
The set was divided according to the volume of prostate into the groups of 10 g (at the prostates of 51 - 100g) and further above 100 g. From the results it is evident that larger volume of the prostate does not cause lower detection of CaP and thus growing volume does not require higher number of bioptic samples.
